Embossing & other finishes
At Letterbox press we offer various finishes and embellishments that will not only look amazing but will take your print job to a new level. We love bringing your creative ideas to fruition and if you are not sure what finishes to go with, we are very happy to offer our input and advice.
We have put together some information on the print finishes we do in house below. See seperate pages for letterpress & foil stamping
Embossing is a raised design that is pressed into paper or card stock from the underneath. Embossing requires two dies, a male and female die. The raised area can have ink applied to it, foil applied, or it can be left unprinted/unfoiled. When an embossed area is not printed or foil stamped it is known as a blind emboss.
Die cutting is a desirable, quality print finish that allows for practical and creative flexibility. A die-cut shape can open a window to reveal colours, finishes and/or a printed image. It can also be used to cut shapes, slits etc to be used in practical ways, such as a slit to hold a business card in a pocket folder or half circle cuts to tuck panels in and lock them together. Die cutting is also a very popular form of producing bespoke envelopes and can act as unique enclosures for invitations and packaging purposes.
Please contact us to discuss any ideas you have for diecutting or for any advice.
Debossing is the opposite of embossing. With debossing, a metal die is impressed into the surface of the paper creating a deep sharp impression. Depending on the design we also blind deboss using photo polymer plates. See our page on letterpress for more information.
Both embossing and debossing can be used in combination with offset printing, foil stamping or letterpress to add depth and impact to a design. Dies can be simple or complex, allowing a creative designer to make broad use of the embossing and debossing techniques.
Scoring prevents stock from cracking when folded and is recommended for all folds on anything but the lightest papers, ensuring that they look crisp and lay flat.
Perforating allows for the clean and easy removal when a tear off section is required.

We can drill crisp clean holes in menus, swing tags, programs, gift tags or anywhere else you require them. We can also add a grommet in an array of colours and sizes which will allow two pages or multiple pages to twist on each other. Eyelets look great on swing tags, gift tags etc and also come in different colours and sizes.
